Reaching For Greatness
Vera Pavlova’s poem “To converse with the greats” is very well written and creative. I love how short it is while still packing a very powerful message to its readers. Reading her poem made me wonder what “greats” the author, Pavlova, would want to “converse” with. It also made me question what “greats” I would want to know more about. This poem is concisely decadent and carries a yearning that really touched me. I was also left wanting more. I wanted an explanation for each and every line, which caused me to think and come up with my own. I would argue that great poetry has that effect on its readers and is often up to interpretation. Overall, this poem made me think not only about its meaning, but how it would feel “to converse with the greats” and the lessons to be learned from the wiser.
